TfL emergency funding is crucial - take the cheap politics out of it

Following the announcement of £1.6bn of emergency government funding for Transport for London to deal with the loss of revenue during the coronavirus crisis, Caroline Pidgeon told the BBC and ITV:

“There was always a black hole in TfL's budget - but nobody could have predicted the situation we're in. When 90% of their revenue has been taken away overnight, it's not fair to blame just one individual...

I think we'll see the Department for Transport wanting to have a real grip over what's going on at TfL. They'll want to have as much control as they can...

This is about party politics. The Tory government taking over regional government. This bailout was always going to have strings attached.”
