Mayor tells Greenwich Council ‘to do the right thing’ on Enderby Wharf following Caroline's questioning

Sadiq Khan has urged Greenwich Council ‘to do the right thing’ in relation to their controversial plans to give the go ahead to Enderby Wharf without any requirement to use non-polluting on-shore power.

The Mayor’s comments were made at City Hall after he was grilled by the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member Caroline Pidgeon, as part of the London Assembly's examination of the Mayor’s environment strategy.

In response to questioning, the Mayor said he will meet the new council leader shortly to discuss his concerns relating to the pollution that the proposed development will create.

Commenting on the Mayor’s response, Caroline Pidgeon said:

“Two years ago Sadiq Khan was promising to resolve this issue, which clearly he has failed so far to do.

"However his willingness to now challenge Greenwich Council is welcome. I hope the council now listens to him and the concerns of many other people who are opposed to allowing liner boats to create so much unnecessary toxic pollution.

“The Mayor’s comments are also welcome as in the past Greenwich Council’s leader has used previous Mayor Boris Johnson’s backing for the scheme as justification for it going ahead without ships being made to use cleaner on-shore power from the National Grid.”
