Caroline Pidgeon AM has joined Liberal Democrat councillors in Brent in expressing deep disappointment at the news that Boris Johnson has refused to act to provide more buses in the Brentfield Road area.
A huge petition from local residents was submitted to the Mayor by Liberal Democrats at a formal Question Time session last month.
Brentfield Road runs between Brent Park Tesco and Harlesden Station and is also home to the prestigious Neasden Temple, but is currently served by only two buses, the 206 and the PR2.
Transport for London also admitted recently that the frequency of buses on the PR2 route had deteriorated significantly in recent months.
Nevertheless, Mayor Boris Johnson replied to the Liberal Democrat-organised petition with a letter concluding: “TfL consider that Brentfield Road is adequately served by these routes and there are no plans at present to provide further bus services here.”
Lib Dem assembly member Caroline Pidgeon, the Chair of the Assembly's Transport Committee, said:
"There is clearly a huge demand for a bus in the Brentfield Road area and it is very disappointing that the Mayor refuses to listen to local people."
Caroline joined Lib Dem Cllr Chunilal Hirani and other local Liberal Democrats out meeting local residents in Wembley Central on Saturday 11th July.
Local residents commented on how pleased they were with the work of the Lib Dem led Council.
Caroline Pidgeon AM, the Liberal Democrat Chair of the Transport Committee at City Hall, was one of the speakers at the West London Line Group’s recent event at West Brompton.
Caroline joined members of the rail user group including its Chair Mark Balaam for a tour of the station and a discussion about many of the ongoing issues the group are campaigning for.
“It was great to hear the history of this important railway line. It is very important that as part of the Sussex Rail Utilisation Strategy, this line is seen as a good way to help passengers to travel across the capital without having to go into the centre of London. It has huge potential and I hope the Government and Mayor of London consider many of the good ideas the West London Line Group are proposing” commented Caroline Pidgeon.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson expressed interest in the proposed express bus service FastBus which would serve Wembley, Park Royal and Acton at a meeting this week at City Hall.
A delegation from Brent and Ealing put the case for case for FastBus to the Mayor at a meeting that came about following Boris Johnson’s promise to Caroline Pidgeon, the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Transport Spokesperson, that he would listen to the arguments for FastBus at first hand from local representatives from Brent and Ealing. The promise by Boris Johnson to Caroline Pidgeon was made at a Mayor's Question Time in January.
Caroline Pidgeon AM has joined Brent Lib Dem MP Sarah Teather and the local Liberal Democrats to campaign for better buses for Stonebridge particularly along Brentfield Road. The 206 and PR2 services which currently serve the area don’t run very often and sometimes don’t even turn up at all. With lots of people coming from outside of Stonebridge to visit the shops such as Ikea and Tesco as well as the world famous Swaminarayan Temple the current links are simply not good enough for local residents and those who use the Temple.
Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather said “So many local people have told me how unhappy they are with our bus services especially on Brentfield Road. That is why I am urging local people to sign my petition to Transport for London calling for a better bus service for our area.”
Liberal Democrat councils have the best record of any political party in supporting the growth in car clubs across London.
This week Transport for London granted £1 million of funding to support the growth of car clubs across London over the next years. Less than two thirds of London boroughs actually applied for funding (19 out of 33 boroughs), yet all seven Liberal Democrat councils in London rose to the challenge and successfully secured funding for their boroughs.
Caroline Pidgeon, Liberal Democrat Assembly Transport spokesperson, has secured an agreement from Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, that he will meet a delegation of representatives from Brent and Ealing to hear the arguments in favour of ‘Fastbus’, the express bus service which would serve Wembley, Park Royal and Acton.
Brent’s Liberal Democrats have launched a campaign with Caroline Pidgeon AM to ease overcrowding on the 245 Bus route, in an attempt to make life easier for those travelling at peak times.
The popular route is particularly congested in the morning rush hour between 7 and 9am, and again in the evenings after around 4pm, according to Lib Dem Councillor Daniel Brown, the Council’s Lead Member for Highways and Transportation.
On Thursday 18th September Caroline attended the 5 year anniversary dinner of the sensational by-election victory that saw Sarah Teather MP elected to parliament.
“Sarah Teather is an incredibly hard working MP, a real champion for local people in Brent. I was delighted to help celebrate her election with members and supporters in Brent. I look forward to continue to work with Sarah and Liberal Democrat colleagues in Brent, to improve transport and other services for local people” said Caroline Pidgeon AM, Liberal Democrat London Transport Spokesperson.
Liberal Democrat London Assembly member Caroline Pidgeon is backing Brent Liberal Democrats in pressing Boris Johnson to act on the problems caused by bus traffic through Staverton Road.
Following long-standing calls for action from local residents, backed by Brondesbury Park's local Liberal Democrat councillors, Brent's Lead Member for Highways and Transportation, Liberal Democrat Councillor Daniel Brown, has written to the Mayor of London asking for action.
